My Mother is a born again christian, a prayerful woman, a Sunday school teacher in church, a friend to the pastors' wife and a very aggressive abuser in the home.
Did you just say ehnnnnn? Wait till you are done reading this.
A woman who never sees anything good in what we do? I don't care how smart you are, my mom will make you feel you are the dullest being on earth! As if that is not enough, I have never seen a day pass without my mother using abusive languages on someone, even us. No wonder our neighbors now restrain their kids from playing with us or coming to our house.
Now, I know why the teachers at school keep calling Our dad to report whenever we use foul languages on our classmates, but who is to be blamed? Me, my brother or our mother?
What amazes me more is the way she prays in the midnight! You hear her scream words like my children must be great, bless my husband but immediately the day breaks, she is the first to counter her own prayers by using languages like (Is this one a child?, no wonder you are not good at anything?, I wonder what you will become in the future? Bastard, foolish child and I actually gave birth to this? ) and often times you see my brother crying over her words. If my Dad tries to interfere, and she starts with him, the man will just walk out of the house and return when we are already asleep. Maybe, because I am still young, I really don't get affected by her saying because I was taught in church that I am a future leader, and my tomorrow will be greater than my today. So, whatever my mother say stays within the four corners of our house. I compose myself so well that when we are outside I don't make her speak those words to me in public.
I have never seen a pretender like my elder brother, the best well behaved boy out there, but I'm sure his school teachers can explain better. Once Mom drops us at the school gates in the morning with her usual "if you like behave yourself, if you like don't," and she drives off, my brother will smile at me like saying we are free for another 8-9 hours.
I was asking my brother some days ago, if we can actually stop pretending in the church, perhaps we can act naughty once and lets arouse mummy's anger maybe she will forget herself and speak those languages in the church, so people can know what we pass through at home. My brother was too scared and he said, "No he can't do that."
Here is what we are saying!
HOW can a mother say unkind words to the child(ren) she bore ? Often times when we get the gift of childbearing as easy as ABC, we don't appreciate it. Go and ask WAITING MOTHERS!
How can you use your praying tongue to Inflict pains on those you pray for?
How can a christian mother be like this, if the kids decide to speak about it to anyone in the church authority, will they believe them?
Let's give this CHILDREN a voice.
Let some of them speak about what they go through at home.
Let Churches organize PARENTING classes for their parents.
Its not all about praying and singing, EDUCATE your members, Do seminars, do marriage get together, invite speakers to address some ETHIC AND MORAL ISSUES. Then during your usual service, sing and back it up with prayers and feed them with the WORD.
A lot of our parents are PRETENDERS in the household of faith. ( Quote me anywhere.)
